Book Review Rating Scale

This rating scale is based on a range of 1-5 stars. Of course, many factors contribute to my decision about a book's rating, but I especially take into consideration the skill level of a story's craft and the development of elements like characters, setting, narrative style, and my overall opinion of the book.

I LOVED this book!

This book has left me obsessed. It was so good for so many reasons that I will sing its praises in review. It may have accomplished something especially well, like supporting a rich cast of characters, a beautiful setting, or a well-crafted writing style with an authentic voice.

I had a really nice time reading this book.

I enjoyed this book so much, but either it isn't unique to me or simply didn't become one of my all-time favorites. Regardless, this book was truly excellent and I will highly recommend it.

I mostly enjoyed this book.

While this book did not leave a strong impact on me, I still enjoyed the experience of reading it. This book is by no means one that I disliked, but something about it bothers me and is keeping me from giving it a higher rating.

I struggled to finish this book. Either something about its story elements didn't sit write with me, or I'm simply not the intended audience for this writing style.

I did not enjoy this book at all.

I seldom rate books with 1 star. It was very difficult for me to finish, and overall the book is either struggling greatly with its written craft or I am not at all the intended audience.

I did not finish this book, and probably won't come back to it in the future. Something about this book bothered me so much that I won't be completing a review for it on the blog or giving it a rating.

- I prefer physical copies as these are best for creating content images, but am glad to work with PDFs as well.

What do you do if you do not like the book? Will you decline a review?
- I will not decline reviews just because I dislike a book. However, if I feel that I cannot offer the book a knowledgeable and fair review because it falls too far out of my scope, I may choose to decline.
